A Little Catch Up

Monday, November 17, 2014

Oh hi. I know, I know. It has been too long since I last blogged, but I have good reason. I got a job! Well, kind of. I have been working "permalance" for a couple weeks now. Confused? I was when I heard the word at first too, but it's such a fun made up word, don't you think? It basically means I am working as an in house freelance graphic designer, and for a great company to boot! While it may not be "permanent" as much as it is freelance, I am enjoying every minute of it. Getting paid to be creative daily is literally a dream come true.

On another creative note, I launched my website! I know you're probably thinking, "Isn't THIS your website?" Well, I'm glad you asked. No, no it is not. THIS is my website. It hold my graphic design portfolio, including some of my favorite work. Here's a peek:

Go take a look around and please let me know what you think! Many hours were spent perfecting the pieces you will find on there, as well as designing and editing the actual website (Squarespace FTW).

Remember when I dressed up as a black cat on Halloween to match my three year old niece? Of course you don't, because I forgot to blog about it...Here's proof:

Quinn was a little overwhelmed by all of the festivities, to say the least. Who can blame the girl though? People dressed up as weird animals and frozen characters. I was a little spooked myself ;)

Have a great week! I swear I'll be back sooner than later xo

My Favorite Color is October

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

I swear it was just last October like yesterday. This year has flown by! Last year around this time my family headed to the pumpkin patch (see that here!), but this year I went with some of my girlfriends. We chatted, took way too many pictures, and grabbed a few pumpkins to decorate before Halloween rolls around. Early Fall in Southern California is my favorite! There's just something about cooler weather that makes me happy.

Last nigh my cousin took me to see BANKS for a belated birthday/graduation celebration. It was everything I hoped for and more. She is AMAZING live! Also, on that note, thank you all for the birthday well wishes! Loving 23 so far :) Happy Wednesday xo

Twenty Three

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Saturday was my twenty third birthday, and with it came a bunch of mixed emotions. On the one hand, I love birthdays and all that comes with getting older! Aside from celebrating what I hope to be a brand new year full of great things, I usually reflect on all that has happened during my previous year of life, in this case my twenty second.

While I am able to check a few things off of my life's "to do" list, like graduating college, this has been a year chalk full of emotional, hard events. I AM hopeful that things for me, and my friends and family, will continue to progress. As daunting as it is to try and figure out what's next for me (you must know by now that I don't do well with the unknown) I finally feel like I am headed in the right direction, and for that very reason I know this year will be my best one yet!

On my actual birthday, my best friends mom was having a 50th birthday party, so I joined in and it was so fun! Plus, a lot of the people I love were there to celebrate too, so it was a win win!

A few days before my birthday is when the real celebrating took place. I went to brunch at The Ivy (so delicious, SO expensive!) with one of my best friends from FIDM. We chatted and also celebrated her 22 birthday. Just a wee baby, that one.

On Friday, the night before my birthday, and also my moms birthday, (have I lost you yet? I have no idea why I've decided to go over these events so out of order, but it was my birthday after all, so I do what I want) my oldest sister took me to sushi and Lost The Musical. I wasn't an avid watcher of the show when it aired, but the play was so funny! If you're able to catch the show, I highly recommend you do so.

I am so ready to have the best year. I have so many good things happening with job leads that I am extremely optimistic! Happy mid October everyone xx T

Fall-ing

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

I took these fun pics the one day it wasn't 90 degrees out...I love Fall, but were the heck is it?! I'm used to dressing in jeans and a chunky sweater (my fav!) by now. I've been trying to transition my summer attire, like this fabulous white Nasty Gal frock, with some pieces to make my outfits more suitable for Fall while it's still hot outside. I will continue to be obsessed with this Free People hat unit I find one I like more :) Wish me luck...

Sam Smith

Friday, October 3, 2014

You must know Sam Smith, unless you've been living under a rock. What you may not know,
is I am his biggest fan! His lyrics just strike a chord within me I never knew existed. I
know...me and every other girl. But I did find it 100 percent necessary to attend his
concert at the Greek Theatre on Monday. I bought tickets for my best friend as a
graduation gift (see that party here), and it just so happens that it was kind of like a
graduation present for myself too. Don't you just love good timing? Me too!
So get this...Because I bought these tickets so long ago (think 4 months!) I forgot the type of
seats we had. SECOND ROW! I died. Britt and I may or may not have shed a few tears
here and there. His voice is seriously like butter! I could not have asked for a more perfect
night. I am loving post grad life, but have some exciting job opportunities in the works
that have me feeling all sorts of giddy inside! I'm trying not to plan ahead, or get my hopes up,
but man that's easier said then done! If I've learned anything though, it's that everything
happens for a reason, so I always have that to fall back on ;)

Happy October! My most favorite month of all xo

Hello Fall

Monday, September 29, 2014

Now that I have a little down time, I thought it might be fun to get out of the house
and celebrate the cooler weather. It's supposed to get back up into the high 90's
this week (boo), so I'm glad I got in a good hike before it get's hot again.
Love this babe!
We were famished after our hour and a half (and 600 calorie!) hike, so we indulged in some yummy
sushi. One roll was wrapped in cucumber, the other soy paper. The perfect healthy alternative

Earlier in the week, I headed to Santa Monica to meet up with some friends for a bit
of shopping and some much needed girl time! I love me some girl time :)
My friends each got the Acai bowl. It looked delicious!

Below is a little video I made of my fun couple of days! I'm thinking about making more of these...

Have a great week! I'm off to see Sam Smith tonight eek.

So This is Life:

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

I guess now is as good a time as ever to jot down some of the thoughts going through my head in regards to graduating college. It
still blows my mind knowing this huge chapter of my life is complete. (I finished almost a week ago! Say what?) Part of
me feels like I just started high school yesterday, a face full of braces and a backpack much to large for my tiny frame.
But an even bigger part of me feels like it took forever to make it to the place I am today. I can remember
graduating high school at seventeen, ready to head to Kansas to play soccer, leaving my family, friends and basically
my entire life behind me. Looking back I was no where near ready to start my life yet, and a part of me knew that,
yet I packed up my stuff and headed across the country, wide eyed and ready to tackle the obstacles in my way. I do
believe everything happens for a reason, though I sometimes seem to forget that and I have to remind myself every so
often, but I am thankful for the short amount of time it took me to come to the realization that I didn't belong there.
Returning home from what was supposed to be my "future" was both humiliating and humbling. I was only concerned
with the things people would say when they heard I was home after less than a month (that's an even longer story for
another day), but I wish I could shake that young girl and tell her that everything would turn out ok. No, not okay, exactly as
it should! After two years at Long Beach State, the first of which was spent again playing collegiate soccer, I again made
the decision to move home, this time to focus on getting a degree that made more sense for ME. It's hard to explain all
the feelings involved with all of the different "start overs", but this one felt right. I must have known this would be
what would stick, because here I am two years later with my AA in graphic design! It may have taken twenty two
(almost twenty three ) years to come to this point in my life, but better late than never right? Countless sleepless nights,
a few colleges, and a lot of prayer got me here. I am forever thankful for my friends, but mostly my family for believing
in me and letting me chase my dreams! Most people wouldn't understand why I've done what I've done, but they always
got it. I will cherish their support, and love with everything I've got.

After spending what felt like two full years cooped up inside, staring at my computer screen, my friends from school and I decided we
deserved a nice dinner and some drinks to commemorate the moment. I honestly wouldn't have made it without them!

Normally, the idea of a Saturday at school would make my blood boil, but these people helped make it fun!

FIDM, you were a blessing! I will miss the people and teachers so much. I can't wait to see what's next.

Here is a link to my portfolio, if you want to take a peek! I am in the process of designing a sight,
but this can be a temporary fix :)
